Why Surface Preparation Is the Most Important Part of Industrial Flooring

Even the best resin system can fail if the substrate is poorly prepared. Grinding, shot blasting, removal of contamination, crack repairs and moisture assessment all affect the bond between the floor system and the concrete. Good preparation is not an optional extra - it is the foundation of a durable installation.

Preparation begins with inspection, not simply choosing a grinding machine. Assess the concrete, existing coatings, contaminants, cracks, joints and moisture conditions. The aim is a sound substrate suitable for the proposed system and the manufacturer's requirements.

The work may include removal of weak surface material, mechanical preparation, vacuum cleaning and local repairs. A clean-looking surface is not always ready to coat, and dust or residues can affect adhesion. Agree on preparation and substrate acceptance criteria before installation. Recording these checks gives the facility a useful basis for understanding the finished system and investigating any future defects.
