Why Industrial Floor Joints Keep Breaking Out
Joint edges often fail because of forklift impact, hard wheels, poor joint filling or movement. Once the arris starts breaking down, the damage can spread quickly. Proper joint repair normally requires removing weak material, rebuilding the edges and installing the correct joint system.
Look beyond the damaged surface. Hard wheels, repeated turning, unsupported slab edges, joint movement and an unsuitable filler can all contribute to recurring damage. Note whether the failure is concentrated at doorways, traffic crossings or changes in floor level.
An effective repair addresses both the broken concrete and the joint's function. Remove unsound edges, assess the remaining slab and select a repair and joint treatment compatible with the operating conditions. If slabs are rocking or settling, a surface patch alone may not resolve the cause. Plan inspections after reopening and attend to small defects before they become larger wheel-impact points.
