Why Coving Is Important in Hygienic Flooring Systems
Coved skirting creates a seamless transition between the floor and wall. This reduces dirt traps and makes cleaning easier in food, pharmaceutical, healthcare and hygiene-sensitive environments. It also protects the wall base from impact and wash-down.
Coving creates a shaped transition between the floor and wall, reducing a sharp internal corner that can be difficult to clean. Its effectiveness depends on the whole junction, including the wall finish, the floor build-up and the way the cove terminates.
Agree on the cove profile and height, substrate preparation and compatible materials before installation. Detail door frames, columns and equipment bases consistently. Movement and cracks at the wall-floor junction need appropriate treatment rather than simply being covered. After handover, inspect edges and damaged areas during routine cleaning so local defects can be addressed before moisture or dirt accumulates.
