What Is ESD Flooring and Where Is It Used?

ESD flooring helps control electrostatic discharge in environments where static electricity can damage equipment or sensitive components. Typical applications include electronics manufacturing, laboratories, data centres and specialised production facilities.

An ESD floor should be specified as part of a complete static-control plan. Clarify the intended environment, required performance and how the floor will work with footwear, grounding arrangements and other controls. An ordinary conductive-looking finish is not proof that the installed system meets the project's requirements.

Agree on the installation build-up, connection details and acceptance testing before work begins. Testing and maintenance should follow the selected system and the facility's requirements. Cleaning products and surface contamination can affect performance, so the ongoing cleaning regime matters. Use a specialist assessment for electronics, controlled production or other areas where static discharge creates a material operational risk.
