What Causes Epoxy Floors to Peel?

Peeling epoxy floors are usually a symptom of poor adhesion. Common causes include oil contamination, moisture, weak concrete, inadequate mechanical preparation or incorrect application conditions. Repairing the visible failure without fixing the underlying cause can result in repeat failure.

Peeling is a symptom of lost adhesion, and the cause needs investigation. Look at where the separation occurs: between coats, between primer and concrete, or within a weak concrete surface. Record moisture conditions, contamination, preparation history and the timing of the failure.

Avoid recoating loose material. A repair proposal should explain how failed layers will be removed and how the remaining base will be assessed. If moisture or continuing contamination is involved, address it as part of the system selection. Good preparation and application control reduce avoidable failures, but the correct remedy depends on evidence from the particular floor.
