How Thick Should an Industrial Epoxy Floor Be?

Not every facility requires the same epoxy thickness. Thin-film coatings may suit light-duty environments, while 1 mm, 2 mm and higher-build systems offer better durability for production, warehousing and automotive use. The correct thickness should be selected around expected traffic and exposure rather than appearance alone.

Start with the work the floor must do. Record wheel type and traffic frequency, turning areas, impact loads, cleaning methods and expected spills. Separate light pedestrian areas from loading bays or production zones; one specification may not be appropriate across the whole building.

Ask for the complete build-up, including preparation, primer, body coat and finish. A thicker resin layer cannot compensate for weak concrete, contamination or unresolved moisture. Confirm the installed thickness and the return-to-service requirements against the selected manufacturer's system data sheet. A site assessment is the best starting point for a durable specification.
